Over the last few years, composite decking has grown in popularity. It is quickly becoming a "must-have" outdoor product for homes and businesses worldwide. Composite decking is a high-quality alternative to traditional wood flooring that has the look of natural wood but requires little maintenance.
On the market today, there are two types of composite decking. Uncapped composite decking is also referred to as composite decking's first generation. The second generation of composite decking is capped composite decking. Both are created through an extrusion process that combines recycled plastic and wood fiber. The difference is that capped composite decking is protected by a polymer shell.
Outdoor composite decking is a great material for decking projects. Capped composite shares many of the same properties as other premium composite decking materials, such as durability and resistance to rot, chipping, and warping. Capped composite decking, on the other hand, is more popular among high-end deck manufacturers and has a protective polymer shell. As a result, capped composite decking is more resistant to mold, water, and fading, in addition to the many benefits common to composites. This is why capped composite decking costs a little more.
COOWIN® capped composite decking has a tough polymer shield that wraps around the core 360 degrees. Wood fibers, PE polymers, and additives make up the core. COOWIN composite decking outperforms wood in terms of durability and safety. You can use any COOWIN® composite decking product with confidence. We will build you a high-quality outdoor deck that will outperform traditional wood construction.

Capped composite decking is an enhanced version of the original product. It adds a polymer shell and a deep 3D embossed wood finish to the first generation of uncapped composite decking. The large, stiff molecules that cover the soft porous core reduce water absorption and allow the decking to last longer than the previous generation. Furthermore, it gives composite products a cleaner, more aesthetically pleasing finish.
For the first few months, first-generation composite wood decking fades slightly, but the color remains consistent throughout. Capped composite decking is more resistant to fading and staining due to the polymer shell's protection. Capped composite decking, on the other hand, continues to provide excellent slip resistance. However, it is less slip-resistant than uncapped composite decking. As you might expect, this is due to its slightly slicker polymer (plastic) protective shell. If you want composite decking with high slip resistance, uncapped composite decking is the way to go. Foot grip is improved by composite decking with 3D wood grain or grooves.
The polymer shell of Capped composite decking adds durability, scratch resistance, and abrasion resistance. UV inhibitors are also present in the capping. As a result, it lasts significantly longer than first-generation composite lumber decking. Both capped and uncapped composite decking are eco-friendly and provide exceptional value for your home. If you are thinking about constructing an outdoor project to add outdoor living space. COOWIN can assist you further.
You may be familiar with some of the benefits of composite decking trim boards. However, it may not be exhaustive, so let us now look at the benefits of composite decking.
1. No maintenance. Unlike wood decks, which must be maintained on a regular basis, composite decks merely need to be cleaned on a regular basis. This will save you a lot of maintenance time and money. This is one of the most significant benefits of composite decking.
2. It is simple to clean. Outdoor decks frequently drop food leftovers, oil stains, and other debris for folks who choose to live outside. These spills might be tough to clean up on wood decks. Cleaning composite decking, on the other hand, requires only a rag and soapy water.
3. All-around defense. Capped composite decking provides complete 360-degree protection all around the board, including tiny areas of curvature and groove area.
4. Excellent insect protection. Termites and other dangerous pests will frequently degrade your wooden building materials, putting your life and safety at risk. You won't have to worry about termites or other pests with composite materials.
5. There are no hazardous substances. Chemicals are not required to waterproof, insect-proof, or anti-corrosion composite materials. As a result, composite materials are really environmentally benign and non-hazardous.
6. There is no need to paint or stain. Composite ornamental panels have a high resistance to fading. As a result, you won't have to paint the solid composite deck every few years.
7. Extended service life. The superior performance of composite materials ensures a long service life. A longer service life translates to a better usage value.
Composite decking is very simple to clean. The following section will briefly describe how to clean your composite wood deck.
Have the following items on hand before you begin cleaning your composite deck.
1.A standard dishwashing detergent bottle
2.A nylon broom or brush of medium hardness
3.A swab
Warm water in a bucket
Following the preparation of the items listed above, we can clean the outdoor deck in four simple steps.
1. Remove all outdoor decking furniture and decorations. Make certain that the entire composite wood decking can be thoroughly cleaned. Then, using a broom, sweep the deck to remove any loose dirt or leaves.
2. Rinse the floor with warm water after removing the debris from the deck surface. Then, make a solution of warm water and detergent. The consistency is similar to that of dishwashing liquid.
3. Using a mop and warm, soapy water, scrub the entire decking, getting into the grooves and removing stubborn dirt and grime.
4. After carefully scrubbing the composite lumber decking, rinse with clean water to remove any remaining soap and dirt. Allow the outdoor deck surface to dry before repositioning furniture and decorations.
COOWIN Outdoor Capped Hollow Composite Decks FAQ
Q1: Can I build my deck directly over an existing deck?
A: COOWIN composite decking is ideal for replacing your old deck on an existing sub-structure, but not to be installed directly on top of existing deck boards.
Q2: Can COOWIN composite decking be installed over an existing substructure, e.g., framing or joists?
A: Yes, as long as the existing substructure is free of damage or decay, and the joists are spaced in accordance with COOWIN Decking Installation Instructions, to ensure good ventilation and drainage.
Q3: Can I build a fire pit on your composite deck?
A: Fire pits should not be placed directly on COOWIN composite decking, it can cause damage to the surface of COOWIN composite decking via direct exposure to the flame, excessive radiated heat, or embers. But fire pits may be installed with a thermal insulating structure made of stone or other fire-resistant materials between the fire pits and COOWIN composite decking.
Q4: Can I paint or stain your decking boards?
A: You can paint or stain on our uncapped decking boards only, but not on our capped decking boards.
However, paint or stain is not necessary as COOWIN composite decking is designed with rich color options, you’ll find everything you want on the color palette. Furthermore, it’s free of rotting, splitting, splintering, or insect damage.
Q5: Can I use your WPC products for structural purposes?
A: No, COOWIN composite decking does provide superior surface integrity and strength, suitable for various project applications, but it cannot be classified as a “load-bearing” product or used for structural purposes.
Q6: Does your decking require pre-drilling to install?
A: Yes, predrilling and countersinking prior to driving screws are recommended as they help to achieve neat fastening and finish, and avoid board splitting and screw shearing. For more information, refer to COOWIN Composite Decking Installation Instructions.
Q7: What type of tools are required to install your composite product?
A: COOWIN composite decking is ideal for home improvement DIY as it can be easily installed with standard woodworking tools including rubber hammers, power saws and drills, level, and tape measures, etc.
Q8: I have a wood deck and want to replace some boards. Can I replace them with composite boards?
A: Yes, you can replace wood boards with COOWIN composite though there are a few factors to take into consideration. First, you need to make sure your substructure is code-compliant, confirm that the COOWIN board you selected has the same thickness as the wooden board it is going to replace to ensure your deck remains smooth and flat. Although replacing old wood deck boards with COOWIN boards can be done, it can result in an undesirable patchwork appearance. A better option, if your substructure is code-compliant, would be to replace your entire deck with all COOWIN deck boards.
